French painting after PBP, can't recall how much I paid probably not worth anything, Souvenir from Paris. Don't know why this is on the phone.
This may be the first year I participated in Bike to Work Day. Don't recall getting this. I probably got a shirt, I did it this year perhaps wearing that shirt. Recall people commented on it. Took the pic to send in with patches from rides.
I was into collecting waterbottles, would buy them from bike shops to add to the collection. Then notice the plastic was disintegrating from the sun. Now I've been using them on rides. Along with my t-shirt collection.
Don't remember when this was taken but guessing when we went up to Alturas to stay at Doloris. Has to be sometime ago as Donna is now half that size, during the time when she may have weighed more than me,

Los Angeles Wheelmen VP Report - January 16, 2024
Hello All:
Last Sunday's ride was "Legg Lake." The last time we ran this one I used ZZ Top's song "Legs" for the theme music, but there is another rock song involving legs so here is tonight's theme music:

Sunday: As mentioned, the ride was "Legg Lake" which started from Brookside Park near the Rose Bowl. We had 6 riders and I took this photo at the start:
That's Russ Brynes, Julie Shishino, Mario Solano, David Nakai and Dale Aaronson. We all started out on the long route (which really wasn't much longer than the medium or even the short). We all stayed together to Whittier Narrows and Legg Lake. Somehow, everyone split up at that point. I went on to the lunch stop, but no one else showed up there. I guess everyone took their own way back. Lunch was a little surprising for me. In the past the choices were a Panda Express, a Starbucks, and a Mexican place. To my surprise the Mexican place has been replaced by a Habit Burger. Great for me. Sometimes I think the Habit people got a hold of our ride library and they are putting up Habits everywhere we go for lunch.
The only other photo I have from the ride was this one sent by David Nakai. It's of the famous suicide bridge near the start of the ride with the courthouse in the distance.
Legging it out
Since Rod was there, no point for a lengthy story
My game plan was to ride a night Populaire then join the club. From description looked like an easy one
So I set alarm to catch a late train to Pasadena, get a few hours sleep before leaving but find can't sleep. It's cold and wife says it dangerous so I wimped
Will ride to the start using hills
First up is Baldwin, then there is not much else to LA, up above Chinatown. Over to Arroyo Seco bike trail, then around the otherside of the bowl valley. Somehow arrive sooner, have time for breakfast at the Brookside Golf course. Pictured is my 14 dollar waffle. Was not aware of SOAR tea, tried two flavors, apple and passion. They were both tasty, nice aroma
So I do not drink coffee but I do indulge with tea
BTW, must been too cold for bicycling as only saw 2 riders circling. Even joggers on light side. Golfers filled the driving range but assume too early to take a cart on the course. And the swap meeters were full force. Got to get early bird selection for that MLK day gift. And here I thought that was an acronym for Major League Kickball.
The next photo is the Colorado Blvd Bridge with Russ informing me is a Federal Court building. Normally on a ride don't have time to sightsee. There's a nice park in the photo with restrooms
The final pic which Rod also took. The photo is explanatory
It was great riding with the group. More greater is everyone waiting for slow poke me.
As our group knows, I peeled off on Orange Grove, taking it to the end on Mission in South Pasadena, well it's all downhill. Heading to Arroyo Seco bike trail, pass Senor Fish, a restaurant would go by many time, across from that busy Trader Joe's, always want to try. There's one in DTLA. Here is my chance. I thought it was tasty and inexpensive especially the amount of fish.
Did not take a photo as Rod does not like Mexican food.
Witness a huge group of riders with a third of them wearing the California Triple Crown Jersey. With weather warmed, more cyclists taking advantage.
OK, that's brief enough
See all at the party. Wife tells me it's going to rain, if it does, you won't see me. But I'll probably still ride the Brevet on Sunday
BTW, saw the meetup ride on Sat, build up an appetite for pizza,
Writing of Randonneuring, there is a Woman Day Brevet and if you be female and new to Rando stuff, your year registration is free. Good stuff, if you are a girl. Check it out on PCH Rando ride schedule.
I'm out
Happy bicycling, David
