It was beachen.
Good evening all,
No food this time. My early morning ride for that famous breakfast burrito came to naught. I was there at opening time, there a quarter past, as like the first time, no movement inside meaning not opening soon
It's OK as my lunch stop selection is more than enough, so save some space in there. What I did do is a little touring. Well I'm wearing a t-shirt from the Long Beach Marathon bike ride. The ride today covered a section of that event by going up the hill through Cal State Long Beach. I notice on today's ride we passed a lot of schools including three universities/colleges.
Back to my mini tour, found a supposed bike trail occupied by dogs and owners, dogs outnumbering people. Went over this bridge which on the club route you can see it. Also pointed out where I broke my first hip. How could I been so stupid not to see the center divider.
It takes me to this really busy three lane road, cars driving as if a freeway and me with no shoulder. Took a bit of time before I realize it'd be safer on the wide sidewalk, that's after seeing a bicyclist using it.
This takes me to the university which I've never investigated, came up to the famous blue pyramid, photo number 1.
Then around the corner is the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Art Center. I'm a fan of their music. But the wife isn't. So that gives me more incentive to memorize the lyrics. Wrote some for her, Why do birds suddenly disappear, when you come near, with that 22. Just like me, that try to flee, away from you.
If I had some time, could come up with something. Did one earlier in the year. Let's try this.
I'm on top of my saddle
Looking toward my destination
And the only explanation
I can find
Is the riding is fine
As it ease my troubled mind
It has put me on the top of the mantle
Back to food
So my destination is Hoff Hut. there's one in Torrance, have never eaten. Find there's one in the lunch stop area. So I've checked the menu, their famous onion rings and have to have a berry pie, even the peach pie which they had a poster looks scrumptious, has me salivating. Somebody on the ride was saying something about a bib.
And what's with this GPS, the group goes off course within the first block, though I'm thinking where they going but I had to follow. Jacques found a correction needed.
Now I don't believe I've seen in past route sheet, the creator's name. I don't recognize the name, thus the route is probably old and I'm thinking what he must be thinking in coming up with it. We do pass a couple of nice civic centers. And Fullerton airport. Another ride that ventures into the other county, well the club jersey does have orange.
As you might have surmised, did not eat at my lunch choice. even after we passed another Hut in Seal Beach earlier which did not look as busy. Well this place is packed, like sardines in a tin, the hallway barely has any breathing room, people standing like rush hour subway during a gas shortage. BTW, looked up, wiki wiki dollars was the gimmick giveway from Chevron Island from the '60s. BTW 2, ebay has 76 orange antenna ball for 5.50.
Jacques and I went across the street and had salad at Pick up Stix which had two other patron. There is no Baja fresh but a Pieology. Could have this ride next March 14. Writing of pies, the route went past a Polly Pie, a la mode please.
Now I'm thinking why is it Richard and Karen when people choose to listen to her warm, welcoming voice.
So we did not have a group photo at the start but Phil feels the need to have one. BTW, happy birthday ChrisH. Anaheim to Old Town, the ride's getting shorter.
Since the route goes on a street name Dale, in honor of this member, group pic by a sign. On my ride to the start also passed his namesake. Because of the group shot, had to ride by the donut shop on my way home. Boy that headwind is making it tougher. I believe Mel has taken a photo of this place. Why Mel would be riding in that area. I once took photos of all the donut shops with a big donut on the roof, if I'm correct there are three in Long Beach. And there is the donut hole which is a drive through a donut. I had made a route, would have to look for it
Won't make the ice cream ride. Going to go home, do whatever, then get up early to drive 130 miles to Malibu for a 200 K Brevet. It's on a Sunday and I tell the RBAs, if you put a ride on Sunday, I'll be there.
Next time will provide info on the Dart, yes I'm not giving up on it. And some other Rando stuff
See everyone when I do, Happy bicycling, David
I've only just begun...
